Markham showcases Canadian pride on Canada Day

From morning citizenship ceremonies to a grand fireworks display at night, Markham showed Canadian pride in city celebrations.

Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed new Canadians as they took the oath of citizenship on the morning of July 1, in the City council chambers.

Friends and family attended and captured the meaningful moment of their loved ones becoming Canadian citizens.

The mayor welcomed the new citizens to an exciting day of celebration.

“Wishing all Canadians a joyful day of pride, gratitude, and celebration,” said Scarpitti.

The afternoon kicked off with local dignitaries attending the 10th annual Canada Day Drumming Celebration, held this year at the Pride of Canada Carousel in Downtown Markham. This included a steel drum performance by Pan Fantasy.

The national event, organized by Legacy 150 Celebrations Society, featured performances from various cultures across Canada, drumming together for six minutes.

The Downtown Markham entertainment included headliner Jully Black, children’s activities, and food vendors.

The evening ended with a big bang, presented by an exciting display of fireworks.
