Unionville Run/Walk supports ALS research
Central United Church is inviting neighbours, congregation members and the wider community to lace up for a meaningful cause at the July 18 5K Run/Walk for Lynne (Pulenzas).
The community event will raise awareness and funds for ALS research at Sunnybrook Hospital’s Brain Sciences Program, bringing participants together in support of those affected by the devastating disease.
Walkers and runners of all ages are encouraged to take part in the 5K course, honouring Lynne’s ongoing battle with ALS while helping advance research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Lynne’s daughter Amanda said her mother lived an active and energetic life before her diagnosis.
“Mom used to be an avid runner, and now she has lost the ability to speak, eat, and walk,” Amanda said. “She wakes up and fights for each day.”
The event begins with registration at 7:15 a.m. at Central United Church, located at 131 Main St., with the run/walk starting at 8 a.m.
Organizers say every participant can help make an impact, whether running the full distance or enjoying a casual walk. Participants are also encouraged to set fundraising goals of $100 or more to further support ALS research efforts.
Registration and sponsorship details are available at raceroster.com.
