14th Annual Charity Table Tennis Tournament raises $37,500

The 14th Annual New Horizon Lions Club Charity Table Tennis Tournament took place on July 13 at the Markham Wesley Centre, bringing together the community in a spirited and energetic celebration of sport and giving.

A total of 220 players from 58 teams competed across 11 categories, drawing nearly 500 attendees to the event.

One of the day’s most inspiring moments came when 91-year-old player and Chinese medicine doctor, Mr. David Quang, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The opening ceremony featured representatives from all three levels of government, as well as business and community leaders. Notable sponsors included Title Sponsor Altec Global, Platinum Sponsor TD Bank, and Annual Cup Sponsor Concord.

Markham Deputy Mayor Michael Chan and MPP for Markham–Unionville Billy Pang were among the distinguished guests who offered greetings and words of encouragement.

“The New Horizon Lions Club extends heartfelt thanks to all participants, sponsors, and supporters for helping make the tournament a resounding success,” said Derek Ho, the event’s co-chair.

In total, the event raised $37,500 in support of three local charitable organizations: $15,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities – MSH Family Room; $12,500 to the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation; and $10,000 to the Markham Wesley Centre.
