Local talent ‘shines’ in open casting call
The 2024 Markham Talent Open Casting Call allowed local talent to “shine” in various creative genres, including singing, dancing, acting and modelling.
“The caliber of talent on display was truly impressive, and I congratulate all participants on their outstanding performances,” Mayor Frank Scarpitti says of the event, which was held Sept. 20 at Markham Theatre.
The Open Casting Call aims to discover and celebrate local talent, providing a platform for emerging artists to gain recognition and confidence. Conceptualized and initiated by Markham Councillor Amanda Yeung Collucci, the event is co-chaired by the Markham Arts Council (MAC).
“This event is a testament to Markham’s thriving arts scene,” Collucci says. “I’m delighted to see our youth and adults showcasing their skills and passion.”

“We were blown away by the talent, creativity, and dedication displayed by all participants. The winners demonstrated exceptional skill and charisma,” says Renu Mehta, chair of MAC, a nonprofit organization established in 2004 focusing on connecting local artists and promoting diverse art forms in Markham.
The judging panel included Juno Awards board member Aideen O Brien, Juno Awards nominee Robert Laidlaw, talent manager Patricia Jarosz, talent manager and model agent Cynthia Cully, TV and casting director Colleen Rush, and casting director Sarah Sheps. All proceeds from the event will help MAC drive economic growth in the arts, culture, and tourism sectors within the City of Markham.
