York Regional Police (YRP) has been named, for the fourth year running, one of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) top employers for 2019, a designation that recognizes employers who lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
Greater Toronto’s Top Employers competition is an editorial project by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals. The Top Employers project recognizes employers with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies. Employers are graded on eight criteria, which have remained consistent since the project’s inception: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
“Every member of our organization can take pride in this designation,” said Chief Eric Jolliffe. “Our members work hard to ensure the safety and security of our community and I am proud that, as an employer, we offer progressive programs to support them. Our people, together with our community, have made York Regional Police the success it is.”
As part of the organization’s efforts to create a diverse and inclusive workforce, York Regional Police maintains a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Bureau and offers a number of in-house training sessions. Staff also benefit from the investments in long-term career development with tuition subsidies for job-related courses (to a lifetime maximum of $7,500), opportunities for formal mentoring and career planning services.
