York Regional Police (YRP) has been named one of the Greater Toronto’s Top 100 Employers for 2021, “a list that reads like a roll call of the region’s most dynamic and forward-thinking organizations,” the competition organizer reports.
“From industry leaders in finance and software development to world-class health care, public sector and non-profit organizations, this year’s winners stand out for their resilience during the pandemic – and for going the extra distance to look after employees and support the community during a period that challenged even the strongest organizations,” says Mediacorp Canada Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals.
Now marking its 15th edition, the competition grades employers on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time-off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development and community involvement.
This is the sixth consecutive year YRP has been named a Top 100 Employer. “I am proud that YRP continues to receive this designation each year,” says Chief Jim MacSween. “As an employer, I am committed to supporting our hard-working members with meaningful wellness initiatives, fair and inclusive workplace practices, and an atmosphere of professionalism, compassion and respect.”
A new diversity, equity and inclusion marketing campaign called Together We Are More showcased YRP’s diverse workforce. Many of its members are multilingual and participate in cultural events across the region in collaboration with community partners.
YRP was also recognized for being one of the few police services in Canada to have two licensed clinical psychologists on staff to provide members with rapid access to consultation services, well-developed training programs related to mental health and the expertise and knowledge to advise on mental health policy and planning.
