Witnesses Sought Following Shooting In Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking witnesses after shots were fired in the City of Markham where no one was physically harmed.

On Friday, May 17, 2019, at 9 p.m., police were called to the area of Elgin Mills Road and Ninth Line, in the City of Markham, to the report of shots being fired. Police have learned that the incident began in the parking lot of a car wash located in the area of Bur Oak Avenue and Markham Road.

Sometime between 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., the victim’s vehicle, a dark grey Lexus sedan, was parked in the lot of the car wash. A dark-coloured BMW sedan pulled up in front of the victim. The passenger in the suspect vehicle pulled out a firearm and demanded that the victim follow them.

The victim initially complied, driving away and following the suspect vehicle, but then attempted to flee after a short distance. Investigators believe that the vehicles were travelling at high rates of speed as the suspect then followed the victim’s vehicle. Once in the area of Elgin Mills Road and Ninth Line the suspect fired a shot at the victim’s vehicle. The suspects then fled the area.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or any drivers who may have dashcam footage that captured these two vehicles to please come forward.
