The Unionville Festival returns in June, for its 49th year, and organizers are expecting the event to be bigger and better than ever.
The festival runs June 2-3 and is centred around Main St. in Unionville. All activities are free for the weekend.
On both days, merchants will line the street selling a variety of food and goods. As well, musicians will be part of the scene and there will be free admission to the Varley Art Gallery.
Activities get going with the festival parade starting at 10 a.m. on June 2, followed by water events: the Krazy Kraft Race at 12:30 p.m. and the Rubber Duck Race at 2:30 p.m. Throughout the day mini-concerts will be presented at the bandshell. Closing off the day will be a fireworks display at Toogood Pond, beginning at dusk.
Bright and early, at 8:15 a.m. on June 3, the Funky 5K Run and 2K Walk will help raise funds for Markham-Stouffville Hospital. As well, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Be Fit Unionville takes over the area around the bandshell for a day of interactive fun, featuring yoga, boot camp, archery and bubble soccer. Also, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Family Fun Day at Crosby Park will feature games, crafts and balloon rides as well as gardening instruction.
As the festival dates approach, more activities and the entertainment line-up will be announced. Visit unionvillefestival.com to keep up-to-date.
