Great summer tunes return to Unionville on Thursday evenings.
The popular summer music series, Thursday Nights at the Bandstand, starts on June 14 at Unionville’s Millennium Bandstand at the corner of Main Street and Fred Varley Drive. Organized by community-based Unionville Presents and funded by dedicated community-spirited sponsors, the series attracts talented Canadian and International musical artists to the outdoor bandstand for all to enjoy free of charge.
The series runs on 12 consecutive Thursday evenings from June 14 through August 30 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
This year’s outstanding line-up kicks off on June 14 with first-time performers, Bon Jovi Forever. How much better can we reel in summer on June 21 with Beach Party Boys and their rendition of the hot, summer tunes of The Beach Boys followed up on June 28 with Summer of 69 and the classics of Bryan Adams. On July 5 Dreamer and their Supertramp experience will be sure to bring back some fond memories. Band on the Run tribute of Paul McCartney and his more than 60 years of Beatles, Wings and McCartney musical memories on July 12 will sure to be another outstanding evening.
New this summer, event organizer Bill Dawson chose to partner with Autism Ontario – York Region.
“This year Autism Ontario – York Region has joined us as our awareness partner as a tribute to David Conforti, one of our biggest fans,” said Dawson.
Elton Rohn with his tribute to Elton John’s greatest hits will highlight an evening dedicated to the memory of the life of David Conforti on July 19. The David Conforti – Reach for the Stars Award will be presented to its first-ever recipient. The award is presented to an individual with autism who has made a significant impact in their community through volunteer work. Thursday Nights at the Bandstand was one of David’s favourite events that he regularly attended during a short life in which he made a significant difference in all that he achieved in spite of his affliction.
July 26 brings the Soul Brothers with their tribute to the original Blues Brothers, Belushi and Aykroyd.
World music chart-topper Johannes Linstead will heat things up on August 2 performing his classical repertoire to light up the early August night.
It’s girls night on August 9 with Material Girls, who will perform tributes to Cher, Madonna and Lady Gaga. The August 16 performance brings back Community Soul Project for an evening of funk, soul, jazz and pop as a kick-off to the 2018 Markham Jazz Festival. The Solitary Man show hits the stage on August 23 for a sing-along night of Neil Diamond’s greatest
hits. Fan-favourite Night Fever and the multiple dance hits of the Bee Gees are back on August 30 to close out the season.
