Things to do with family this fall

With the leaves changing colours and the weather getting colder, it’s a sign that fall is here.

But, this doesn’t mean that all the outdoor fun is over. Whether you’re looking to get the whole family up and moving or just looking for a nature escape, here’s a list of things you can do with your family this fall.

A great activity to do during the fall season is to visit a farm. There are many farms that are just a short drive away, such as Lionel’s Farm. Lionel’s Farm offers wagon rides, pony rides, and a petting farm that includes animals such as sheep, llamas, and deer of all sizes. You can even feed the animals with food such as bread, apples, and carrots during your visit for an up close and interactive visit.

Another farm you can visit is the Forsythe Family Farms. Here you can walk through their sunflower trails and corn mazes. They also have a variety of pick-your-owns available throughout the season – apples, pumpkins, and peas are just a few of the many things you can pick at the Forsythe Family Farms. On top of this, they also have farm animals you can visit as well as a playground for the little ones.

Applewood Farm and Winery is another great farm in the area that has a wide range of activities on site.

“Applewood Farm and Winery is a family-run, family-friendly farm,” said Stephanie Passafiume of Applewood Farm and Winery. “There is something for everyone.”

During the fall season, they also have a wide selection of pick-your-owns and activities for visitors of all ages, including a winery that houses award-winning wines and ciders that are made on site.

“We offer apple and pumpkin picking, wagon rides, a corn maze, a children’s playground, and more,” said Passafiume. “Don’t forget to stop by the winery and grab a bottle of something new. We invite you to come spend a while under our tree!”

Another thing you can do this season is to take in the beautiful fall scenery. There are many places that offer great views for this, such as High Park. This park is a popular spot for photographers and even has a zoo, a playground, and some hiking trails. If you enjoy hiking, Scarborough Bluffs is another great spot to view the fall colours. Here you’ll be able to find many hiking trails that bring you to scenic lookouts. If you want a mix of both the city and nature, the Toronto Islands is a great option. Just a short ferry ride will take you from the city to the islands, where you can be surrounded by fall scenery while also having the Toronto skyline as your backdrop.

Lastly, a family-favourite for the fall season is Camp Spooky at Wonderland. Camp Spooky takes place on weekends from Sept. 28 to Oct. 27. On top of all the rides that Wonderland has to offer, there will be an enchanted garden maze, dance parties, trick-or-treating, and pumpkin decorating.

There will also be a special Charlie Brown show, an interactive story time session with Snoopy, and a costume parade. These are just some of the many activities that you can find at Wonderland this season.

So even though summer is over and the weather is getting a little colder out, there are still plenty of activities you can do with your family this fall.
