Suspect sought following fail-to-remain collision in Markham

Investigators are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect following a fail-to-remain collision that occurred in the City of Markham.

On April 12 at 9:45 p.m., police were called to the intersection of 14th Avenue and Box Grove Bypass for a report of a collision. When officers arrived they found a blue Honda sport utility vehicle off the roadway that had collided with a tree and had significant damage front-end damage. The driver of that vehicle was uninjured and advised that they had been struck in the intersection by a white vehicle that was making a right turn onto 14th Avenue from Box Grove Bypass. The suspect vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Investigators have secured dash cam footage of the collision from the victim’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle is described as a newer-model white passenger vehicle that would likely have sustained damage to the front driver’s side corner.

Minor collisions involving damage of less than $2,000 combined are considered non-reportable and as such do not require a police report due to their minor nature. Involved drivers are required by law to exchange their driver’s licenses, ownerships and insurance and report these collisions directly to their insurance companies. In the event the collision involved injury to anyone involved the police are required to attend and complete a collision report.
