Suspect sought after Newmarket armed robbery

York Regional Police are seeking a knife-wielding suspect who held up a Newmarket convenience store early June 18.

Officers were called to the store in the Davis Drive and Main Street South area around 4:05 a.m. following a report of an armed robbery. A male suspect had entered the store and demanded cash while brandishing a knife. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, he fled the store toward Davis Drive.

The clerk was not physically injured during the incident, police said. The suspect is described as five feet 11 inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a blue jacket, navy shorts, white and black bandana and carrying a black backpack.
