Markham high school student Sydney Baxter led a highly successful rally and protest for Black Lives Matter this weekend. She was joined by fellow students, teachers, parents, local politicians, and many other Markham residents who enthusiastically support the cause.
“I organized this event because no one was really doing anything with regards to anti-black racism in Markham,” said Sydney. “I decided that enough was enough and if I wanted change to happen, then I would have to do something about it myself.”
“I wanted this protest to bring the community together against anti-black racism and to show them that silence is not an option,” Sydney continued. “When the protest day came around I was blown away by the amount of people that came out to support.”
