Scooping up funds in preparation for winter

Local residents, politicians, and community leaders raised $3000 Nov. 18 in support of “Shovels for the Community”, a fundraiser for Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) Foundation, Markham Lions Club and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) Foundation.

Aaron Madar, of the Markham Lions Club and MSH Leaders group, hosted the event that also collaborated with MLSE Foundation for raffle prizes. These included a 2017-2018 team signed hockey stick from the Toronto Maple Leafs and a winter prize pack consisting of a Toronto Raptors Toque, a Toronto FC Blanket Scarf and a Toronto Maple Leafs Scarf.

Joyful Habitat, Canadian Wholesaler and Distributor of outdoor products, furniture etc. committed to 2000 shovels, of which the remaining were given to the City of Markham and the City of Toronto. These will go toward the maintenance of local ice rinks and community centres.
