Police seek suspects following a Markham jewellery store robbery

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking assistance to identify two
suspects following a jewellery store robbery inside a mall in the City of Markham.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at approximately 4:10 p.m., York Regional Police received multiple
9-1-1 calls for a robbery in progress at a jewellery store inside a mall on Steeles Avenue East and
Kennedy Road.

Officers learned that two male suspects entered the store and began smashing the glass jewellery
display cases with a hammer. The suspects fled through the north mall entrance and ran northwest
towards the corner of Kennedy Rd and Clayton Drive.

The suspects were both described as male, black, early 20s, approximately 5’7”, with thin-to-medium
builds, wearing black clothing.

The employee of the store was not physically injured.

Investigators from the Hold-Up Unit remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and
updating video surveillance equipment. Quality images help to identify suspects, can aid in arrests
and have a tremendous impact during court proceedings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at
1-866-876-5423, ext. 6631, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
