Asian Canadians honoured at awards ceremony

May is Asian Heritage Month, and with it came a recent event where the Asian community celebrated outstanding contributions in their communities.

The event hosted by the Canadian Multicultural Council – Asians in Ontario (CMC-AO) included special greetings, dinner and cultural performances, community award presentations and more. Award recipients, dignitaries, community leaders, volunteers and individuals from member associations were on hand to revel in the accomplishments of the pioneers of diversity, inclusion, and growth in Ontario.

The CMC-AO represents over twenty Asian Canadian associations who aim to preserve and promote Asian culture and heritage. Groups from the Korean, Burmese, Bangladeshi, Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Filipino communities participated in festivities.

Also in attendance were recently elected MP Mary Ng of Markham-Thornhill, Senator Victor Oh and Regional Councillor Nirmala Armstrong.
