After working with local lawyers, students from eight Simcoe County District School Board high schools will gather at the Barrie courthouse to take part in the first-degree murder trial of Bartholomew (Bartie) Butt.

While the case is fictitious, the 2018 Simcoe-Muskoka Mock Trial competition will help students learn about the justice system. They’ve been preparing for their roles as either lawyers or witnesses for the Crown or defence by working with local lawyers, who have volunteered their time to help coach the school teams.

Barrie North Collegiate, Banting Memorial High School, Orillia Secondary School, Collingwood Collegiate Institute, Nantyr Shoes Secondary School, Eastview Secondary School, Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School and Elmvale District High School will all take part in the competition, which begins at 7 p.m. April 26 at the Superior Court of Justice, 114 Worsley St. in Barrie.
