On May 16, city officials celebrated the opening of the Verdale crossing bridge between Rougeside Promenade and Rouge Valley Drive West in Markham.

The bridge will connect new developments on the north and south sides of the river in Markham Centre, while also protecting the redside dace, an endangered species of fish found in the area.

The new crossway features a major collector road with four traffic lanes, on-road bike lanes and wide sidewalks on both sides of the road. The design was completed by AECOM Canada and constructed by KAPP Contracting.
