Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) Foundation recently celebrated the Canadians of Pakistani Origin (COPO) for its $2.5 million contribution to the hospital.
MSH proudly unveiled the Canadians of Pakistani Origin Orthopaedic Centre in honour of COPO’s gift.
The COPO is a group of donors who has been supporting the hospital for over a decade, helping MSH to deliver extraordinary patient care by funding priority medical equipment, innovative technology and emerging hospital needs.
COPO is presided over by City of Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti as Honourary Chair, and its co-founder, Councillor Khalid Usman, current director and past chair of the MSH Foundation Board. A core objective of the organization is giving back to communities that are kind and welcoming to Pakistani and Muslim immigrants.
This generous contribution supports care close to home for the many patients and families who rely on the hospital every day.
“The continued generosity of my fellow Muslims and Pakistanis is truly motivating,” Usman says. “We are committed to coming together to support the healthcare needs of our rapidly growing and aging population.”
The Canadians of Pakistani Origin Orthopaedic Centre will include the Fracture Clinic, WSIB Clinic, as well as the Orthopaedic Joint Assessment Centre (OJAC), which features Ontario’s first rapid access centre model for patients with hip and knee, lower back/spine, shoulder and foot and ankle joint issues.
“As an orthopaedic surgeon, I have the pleasure of seeing first-hand the impact that COPO’s generosity has on our patients and their families and on our ability to provide world-class care to our community,” says Dr. Syed Haider, orthopaedic surgeon, MSH. “Last year, we performed close to 3,400 orthopaedic procedures using leading-edge equipment and technology that is funded by generous donors like COPO.”
Suzette Strong, CEO of MSH Foundation, and Jo-anne Marr, president and CEO of MSH, acknowledged the contribution made by COPO and its generous donors. “The dedication of the Canadians of Pakistani Origin to continue to bring people together in support of a common cause is inspirational; this contribution is a true testament to what can be accomplished through the power of giving and collaboration. Markham Stouffville Hospital relies on support from the community to sustain excellent patient care close to home, and we are proud to celebrate COPO’s generosity.”
