The City of Markham hosted a community send-off celebration for Markham-based Chinese Collective Arts Association (CCAA) on July 11, ahead of the local dance group’s upcoming performance at the International Festival of Dance and Songs “Ohrid Waves” in Ohrid, North Macedonia.
The celebration included a dance performance by CCAA and a traditional Macedonian folk dance performed by the Ensemble Zdravec.
“Markham’s strong diversity is on full display here and on the world stage,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “The power of dance and music transcends borders and this community send-off is a way to share our pride, while creating long and lasting friendships. We are proud to welcome Mr. Jovica Palashevski, Consul General of the Republic of North Macedonia in Toronto to Markham to share in this celebration.”
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, CCAA will send eight of its dancers, plus its Artistic Advisor and Youth Dance Instructor to Ohrid to perform at the festival which runs from July 23-27. CCAA was invited to serve as the cultural representatives from Canada for this year’s festival, which will see more than 1,000 artists from around the world.
CCAA is a non-profit organization that hosts a variety of workshops, seminars, and tutorials to offer a variety of opportunities for its members to be exposed to various art forms of Chinese culture.
