Man charged with attempted murder after shooting involving police

Police have charged a 34-year-old man after a shooting in Richmond Hill.

On Friday, December 27, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Bayview Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive. During the interaction, shots were fired and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

The suspect went inside a residence located on Elmwood Avenue. Following hours of negotiation, with the assistance of the York Regional Police Emergency Response Unit, Canine Unit as well as the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force, shortly after 10 p.m., the suspect was placed under arrest.

The Special Investigations Unit invoked their mandate and this incident is still under investigation.

Anoshirvan Shirizadeh, 34, City of Richmond Hill, is facing 10 charges including attempted murder.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
