Man charged following harassment incidents

Police have charged a 41-year-old man following incidents of harassment in the City of Markham.

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, York Regional Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in
the area of Church Street and Cornell Centre Boulevard. A woman reported that she was out jogging
just before 9:30 a.m., when a man in a black Mazda CX9 began following her. The suspect drove by
then did a U-turn to drive by again. After several minutes the driver pulled over and parked,
watching the victim with the window rolled down. The victim confronted the suspect demanding to
know why he was following her and told him to stop. The suspect indicated that he liked watching
her and intended to continue to follow her. The victim began taking photos of the suspect vehicle
as it drove away.

Investigators learned that the suspect remained in the area and began following a second victim, a
young teenage female who was also out running. Police said the suspect approached her in his vehicle and asked
for directions then stated he liked to watch her run and asked if he could follow her.

George Raymond, 41, of Markham, has been charged with criminal harassment and intimidation.
