The Markham Group of Artists (MGA) presents its Annual Juried Show from May 23 to June 3 at the McKay Art Centre in Unionville. The show will reflect the group’s wide range of interests and styles from delicate, realistic watercolours to dynamic abstracts and everything in between.

The show’s reception takes place May 26 from 2-4 p.m., which offers a great opportunity to meet the artists. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. followed by a walkabout with juror and professional artist Jeff Nye discussing his selection for the show. Refreshments and live jazz performance by Arts Unionville musicians will also be provided for your enjoyment.

MGA president Linda McIntosh and her fellow artists enjoy inspiring others through their art.

“Our members are passionate about sharing the joy art can bring to others, believing that the purpose of art is to inform, inspire and delight,” says McIntosh.

Growing from a small core group started in 1981 by well-known local artist and cartoonist Pat Wheeler, this vibrant organization now has a membership of close to 100, consisting of artists at all levels of experience. The organization also offers members an impressive array of workshops and lectures by distinguished artists and are quite involved in the community, creating inspirational ceiling tiles for Sunnybrook Hospital, collaborative mosaics for Thornhill and Cornell libraries, a “Canada 150” mosaic installed in the Richmond Hill Immigration Centre, as well as a diptych for the Markhaven Seniors Home dining hall. Future community projects are in the works.
