Next fall, your little one will be heading off to kindergarten. But first, you need to register.
The York Region school board is accepting kindergarten registration for the upcoming school year beginning Jan. 19. Children born in 2014 are eligible for junior kindergarten this September. Children born in 2013 and not currently attending public school are eligible for senior kindergarten.
Parents can call their local public school for information or visit the school board website for the whole story, including a full listing of elementary schools. The board offers a full-time program but principals are flexible in accommodating parent requests to have their children attend kindergarten half-time.
French immersion registration in York Region also begins on Jan. 19. Parents of senior kindergarten students thinking about enrolling their children in the program are invited to attend an information session at French immersion schools on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. A list of schools, session locations and further details is available on the board’s website.
The York Catholic District School Board is now accepting junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten registration. The full-day program teaches children through inquiry and play-based learning methods. To register, visit your local Catholic school during regular school hours. Call the school ahead of your visit and be sure to find out which documents you need to provide. To find out which York Catholic elementary school offers full-day kindergarten in your area, visit locator.ycdsb.ca or call the board admissions department at 905-713-2711 or 416-221-5050.
