The Markham Centre Trails – an interconnected trail network through Markham Centre – are open, making it easier for walkers, joggers and cyclists to get around.
“This marks an exciting milestone for our city as we continue to invest in our community’s health and well-being by providing accessible outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy,” the City says.
It celebrated the grand opening of the Markham Centre Trails with a ceremony and celebration featuring a host of activities on Saturday, May 13 at Birchmount Road and Rougeside Promenade just south of Hwy. 7.
The opening of the trails realizes a vision that dates back to 2004. That’s when the City completed the Markham Centre Greenlands Master Plan, which defined an interconnected trail network in three general areas: Apple Creek to Hwy. 7 (Area 1), Woodbine to Warden Avenue (Area 2) and Warden Avenue to Main Street Unionville (Area 3). The trails were constructed in phases.
