Information Markham and Volunteer Centre is celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 7-12) with a major renewal.
“The rebranding includes a top-to-bottom redesign of the organization’s website, logo, graphics, communications and correspondence,” says Mirja Raita, executive director.
Now known as Volunteer Markham, the change reflects the organization’s evolution into an all-encompassing organization supporting a culture of volunteerism in the City of Markham. They provide access to an online volunteer opportunity database, offer a volunteer referral service, provide training and education for volunteer management professionals as well as promote and recognize volunteer contributions in the community.
“As an organization, we have to remain relevant to our volunteers and the community we support,” said Judy Zon, Volunteer Markham chair. “By operating as Volunteer Markham, we clarify our mandate in a simplified and easily understood manner, providing community organizations and volunteers a place to connect and build social capital in the City of Markham.”
According to Statistics Canada, in 2010, more than 13 million Canadians volunteer a total of two billion hours, the equivalent of 1.1 million full-time jobs. On average, volunteers each contributed 156 hours or, roughly, 21 working days.
