Employees from Markham-based Astellas Pharma Canada recently prepared 600 care packages for seniors in York Region.

The kits, which contain useful items including a fleece blanket, hand lotion, socks and a scarf, along with a handwritten note from an Astellas employee, were distributed in partnership with Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS).

The activity was undertaken as part of Changing Tomorrow Day, an annual Astellas initiative aimed at making a positive, measurable impact in the community.

The program is currently in its ninth year. To extend their impact throughout the year, Astellas gives back in other ways, including offering five paid volunteer days for full-time employees, supporting local charities and causes, and acting as the official pharmaceutical sponsor of Wish of a Lifetime, an organization devoted to fulfilling lifelong wishes of Canadian seniors.
