Guilty plea in crash that killed teen

A 24-year-old Markham woman has been sentenced to 42 months in prison after pleading guilty to impaired driving charges in connection with a single-vehicle crash.

On April 17, Jing Jing Pan pleaded guilty to impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and bodily harm. She also faces a five-year driving prohibition and must pay a $400 victim surcharge, according to a York Regional Police news release.

At about 3:05 a.m. on Nov. 18, 2016, police responded to a single-vehicle collision in the area of 14th Avenue and Markham Road. Responding officers found a white Range Rover Evoke with extensive damage and a 17-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. A 21-year-old female passenger and 22-year-old female driver were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
