Former pastor charged with sex assaults

A former North York church pastor and manager of a Markham hockey team faces numerous sexual assault charges against two children.

Richard Rose, 59, of Port Colborne, is charged with four counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference — under 16. A home daycare operated out of his family residence in Markham, where he lived from 1991 to 2015. He also has connections to Montreal, Rimbey, Alta. and Nova Scotia, where he also worked as a pastor.

York Regional Police (YRP) began investigating Rose in mid-December after a now-adult victim reported an incident that occurred when he was a young child. Through the investigation, YRP took over additional incidents that had been reported to the Niagara Regional Police Service that occurred in the Port Colborne area in 2017.

The accused was arrested on December 20 and is scheduled to appear in Newmarket court on January 18. Investigators are releasing an image of the accused to ensure there are no further victims.
