Farmers’ market moves inside

The weather outside might be frightful but the atmosphere at the Stiver Mill Farmers’ Market is just delightful. The market has moved inside the historic mill for its fifth season.

Stiver Mill is Markham’s last standing grain elevator and one of the very few left in Ontario with its original grain equipment. The apparatus is easily visible in the ceiling and really adds to the atmosphere of this cozy indoor market.

Regular weekly vendors offer products ranging from fresh baked goods, meat and honey to wine. In addition to those core vendors, there is a rotating group of artisans, which means a different selection of one-of-a-kind handcrafted items each time you visit. Handcrafted jewellery, all natural body care products, handmade sake chocolates and knitted hats and mittens are just a few of the possibilities. It’s a perfect place to visit for holiday gift giving.

The market is open Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Dec. 23, at 9 Station Lane, just steps from Main Street Unionville.
