We have all felt the effects of Covid-19 on our education, relationships, and daily lives. During this shift to an online world, small businesses in the community have been quick to respond with some exceptional virtual initiatives. Elevation Martial Arts and Training Centre opened in 2018 with a vision to create a positive and safe learning environment for their students.
They work to empower and inspire the community through Martial Arts and help support students working towards their goals and a healthier and happier lifestyle.
The centre started offering virtual classes two weeks after the academy was closed, with the main focus being to continue to keep the community active in the safest possible way. The team lent out bags and equipment to members to complete the at-home workouts alongside positive mindset activity worksheets.
“We chose to view these circumstances as a positive time, encouraging families to get involved in training together online,” coach Ritch Cruz says. “These online classes have given our students the opportunity to continue their training, which keeps them physically active at home and allows them to stay in contact with their teammates and coaches who have a strong positive influence on them.”
Elevation offers programs for all ages including Muay Thai/Kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, and Strength and Conditioning classes. Something that sets Elevation apart from other academies is that they use a curriculum that is created around the understanding of childhood development. This is paired with a Character Development program focusing on self-discipline, focus, hard work, confidence, and respect.
The centre is a part of the Muay Thai Ontario and World Association of Kickboxing Organization (WAKO) and coach Ritch was selected to coach this year’s Canadian Junior National team.
“Being a small local business, we know how trying these times have been,” Cruz says. “We hope to inspire our students to give back to the community and be supportive of one another in any way they can. Elevation is not just an Academy but a family, where our students learn to be the best version of themselves.
“We look forward to seeing our members and their families soon.”
