Covid-19 outbreak at Participation House Markham

York Region Public Health officials confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak at
Participation House in Markham. Participation House supports 42 adults with physical and
developmental disabilities, such as cerebral palsy. Both staff and residents have tested positive
for COVID-19.

“I am issuing an emergency call to businesses, community groups or individuals who can immediately
help to provide gowns, safety glasses and gloves,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is critical to stopping the spread in this home. Participation
House has six separate units, there are six bedrooms and three shared washrooms within each unit.
All units open into a common area with a communal dining space.

Participation House is in urgent need of personal support workers to deliver basic needs to the residents.

Contact Shelley Brillinger at 905-294-1008 ext. 224 or shelley.brillinger@participationhouse.net to offer support or PPEs.
