Councillor Lee’s 1st Annual Community BBQ

Hundreds of Markham residents gathered at Councillor Isa Lee’s 1st Annual Community BBQ on September 7 for a fun and informative afternoon.

Logan Kanapathi, MPP for Markham-Thornhill, Markham Ward 7 Councillor Khalid Usman, and York Region District School Board Trustee Juanita Nathan also attended the event to show their support.

Residents not only enjoyed burgers, ice cream, children’s activities, as well as some exciting performances from local artists and dance groups, but also had the opportunity to visit 18 information booths. Some of the booths included Carefirst Seniors and Community Services Association’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU), which provided seniors with on-site health services; Markham Cycles, which promoted hub programs like, Do it Yourself Bike Repair, Group Bike Rides, Workshops etc. In addition to a small bike mini obstacle, Markham Cycles also taught attendees how to do a bike safety check; Foundations for a Drug-Free World was also on hand to distribute drug education booklets.

Members of the Markham Fire department provided tips to residents on fire prevention.

Markham Public Library set up a booth to promote new programs, while Markham’s Fire Department provided residents with tips on fire prevention. The city’s Waste & Environmental Management department also had a booth to help educate residents.

    Hello, that was a really great Community BBQ that Councillor Issa Lee and volunteers and many others put on. Good food and informative booths that highlighted community services of York Region. Very well planned and executed. Really good turnout as well.
