Charges laid in connection with fire in Markham

York Regional Police investigators have laid charges against a 34-year-old man after a fire at a residence in Markham.

On Aug. 10, at approximately 11 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Black Cherry Drive, which is in the area of Raymerville Drive and McCowan Road, for a fire call. Fortunately, the homeowner was able to safely exit the residence and there were no injuries.

Thanks to assistance from the community, investigators were able to successfully identify the suspect and he has been charged.

Evan Houston, 34, of Toronto has been charged with arson with disregard for human life, possession of incendiary material, uttering threats against a person, uttering threats against a property and two counts of breach of a peace bond.

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at Newmarket on Dec. 19.
