Charges laid after parking lot incident in Vaughan

York Regional Police have charged a man after he was seen walking around a mall parking lot with a knife and a crossbow just southeast of Hwy 400 and Rutherford Rd.

On July 21, shortly before 7 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the parking lot of Vaughan Mills Mall for a report of a man waving a knife. When officers arrived they located the suspect inside of his vehicle that was in the lot in front of Bass Pro Shops. The man was taken into custody.

As the investigation continued it was discovered that the suspect had been involved in a fail-to-remain collision in a parking lot a short distance away. Officers also found a crossbow, knife, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

Wencheng Chen, 25, of Markham, is facing seven charges, including possession of a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and mischief.

The investigation is ongoing.
