What if everything we did and built in our cities was great for an 8 year-old as well as an 80 year-old?
According to urbanist, former mayor of Bogotá and founder of 8 80 Cities, Gil (Guillermo) Penalosa, we would surely end up with fantastic cities for all.
Markham residents will have two opportunities to hear Gil Penalosa at two public lectures on the importance of the public realm and public participation in Creating a Vibrant and Healthy Markham for All.
Penalosa has inspired and advised decision makers in more than 350 cities around the world on how to create vibrant, healthy and inclusive communities through the design and use of parks, streets and sidewalks as great public places, as well as the role of mobility (walking, bicycling, public transit and cars).
Creating a Vibrant and Healthy Markham for All is part of the City of Markham’s Public Realm Speaker Series.
The two lectures take place Oct. 23. The first one takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Markham Civic Centre in the Canada Room. The second lecture takes place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Aaniin Community Centre.
