After all of this time at home, do you have wanderlust?
Since most travel dreams during the pandemic are simply dreams for now, the Markham Library team has some book suggestions that will take you far and away.
On the Road: This classic travel novel from the 1950s follows the protagonist, Sal, as he leaves New York City and journeys west across the United States. If you have an itch to travel, you can easily relate to him. This book also explores how travel can shape a person.
The Alchemist: This novel is moving and inspiring. It is about a young shepherd boy following his dreams who travels from Spain to Egypt. It will take you on a journey as he learns about life and love.
The Lost City of Z: This book, which was adapted into a film, is about real life explorer, Percy Fawcett, his travels and mysterious disappearance. Fawcett trekked through the Amazon looking for a lost city. This read is definitely going to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The Beach: This is another novel that was made into a movie, starring a young Leonardo DiCaprio. It is about exploring off the beaten path. It follows a young backpacker, Richard, as he explores Thailand and searches for a mythical isolated beach.
Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel: If non-fiction is more your style, this book written by Rolf Potts is for you. It offers advice on how to travel long-term. Potts spent many years travelling around the globe. Potts gives practical tips for new travelers and is sure to give you wanderlust.
