All lights out at Markham Earth Hour event

Commemorate environmental sustainability at the Markham Celebrates Earth Hour event.

On March 24, join Councillor Colin Campbell at the Cornell Community Centre for the fifth annual event. With activities and entertainment for the entire family, the theme of the night will be explore different ways residents can make the community a more environmentally-friendly place.

Back for another year is the sustainability fair, a showcase of projects created with eco-friendly materials. Up to 20 exhibits will be on display, all created by local Grades 6-8 students.

The sustainability fair won’t be the only green activity at the event. There will be plenty of eco-friendly arts and crafts along with music and light refreshments. Also, look for a special guest appearance from Spiderman.

The final activity of the night will be the lantern walk. At 8:30 p.m., all lights will be turned off and all lanterns will be switched on as participants go on a walk around the community centre. Not only will all lights be off at the site, but many buildings and homes will be joining in at the same time for the nationwide Earth Hour initiative.
