Following a year of fundraising, York Region will have access to an accessible mobile washroom trailer starting this summer. Fundraising efforts have been underway for nearly a year and enjoyed a $50 thousand installment from the federal government in February, along with March’s announcement of $97 thousand.
The order has now been placed for construction of the unit, which will cost $141 thousand and be ready in time for Canada Day celebrations, July 1. Residents and organizations across the region came together to raise funds for the unit, which will allow people with disabilities to access community events.
The mobile unit will be housed and managed in Stouffville, but available to municipalities across York Region, including Markham. It will be rented out at a non-profit rate that accurately reflects the costs of upkeep and maintenance.
