Cuba’s Malpaso Dance Company performs in Markham in the New Year.
Over the past six years since it was established, it has become one of the most sought after dance companies in the world.
The program for Markham is expected to include ‘24 Hours and a Dog’ by Osnel Delgado, inspired by the daily life of dancers in Havana, and ‘Indomitable Waltz’ by Aszure Barton, one of North American’s prominent choreographers.
Delgado is one of the company founders and continues to serve as artistic director and choreographer. Additional founders include executive director Fernando Sáez and dancer Daileidys Carrazana.
Emphasizing a collaborative creative process, Malpaso is committed to working with top international choreographers while also nurturing new voices in Cuban choreography.
The company tours with 11 dancers.
Malpaso Dance Company plays the Flato Markham Theatre on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
