A third man has been charged in the kidnapping of a 22-year-old Chinese student in Markham and a Canada-wide arrest warrant remains in effect for a fourth suspect.
Nathan Plater, 22, of Clearview was arrested on April 25 after York Regional Police executed a search warrant at his home. He has been charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement and possession of a prohibited firearm.
The accused appeared in Newmarket court for a bail hearing on April 26 and held in custody for a court appearance on April 29. Police are not releasing details regarding his involvement in the kidnapping of Wanzehn Lu. On March 23, the victim and a friend were in an underground parking garage at a condominium building at 15 Water Walk Dr. near Hwy. 7 and Birchmount Rd.
Three men, one armed with a taser, exited a van and grabbed the victim. Lu was resisting and shocked by the suspects, who then forced him into the van and fled. Three days later, he was located after asking for help at a house in Gravenhurst. He was suffering from minor injuries and taken to hospital for treatment.
Abdullahi Adan, 37, turned himself into police on April 1 after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest and charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and assault. He’s being held in custody and will appear in court in Newmarket on May 17. Hashim Abdullahi, 33, was arrested April 2 after police executed a search warrant at a Brampton home and faces the same charges. He’s also being held in custody and will appear in court on May 16.
Muzamil Addow of Toronto is wanted for kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault and three counts of fail to comply with recognizance. Anyone with information is asked to contact Major Crimes Bureau immediately at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865. If you spot the suspect, do not approach him. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
