The Varley Art Gallery, name sake of Group of Seven founder Frederick Varley, celebrated our national colour with Canadian music legend, Jim Cuddy who performed at their gala fundraiser Oct. 12. Suhana Meharchand of CBC News served as emcee, while Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Christopher Bratty, Remington Group President, Land Development & Investments co-hosted.
The evening was designed to raise funds for the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham and in support of the gallery’s exhibitions, art acquisitions and educational programs. This was done via ticket sales and both a live and silent auction of works by several artists, sporting event and theatre tickets, family packages, wine tastings and more.
Legendary Canadian rocker, and Order of Canada recipient Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo fame closed out the evening with a live performance of many of his hits, including his award winning solo works. Also at the event were local City Councillors, Amanda Yeung Collucci (Ward 6), Don Hamilton (Ward 3), Karen Rea (Ward 4) and Regional Councillor, Nirmala Armstrong.
