Get into the holiday spirit and make your way to Main Street, Unionville for all things Christmas this December.

Main Street, Unionville is a holiday hub for the community every year. With the historic background behind the strip and its beautiful winter scenery, you won’t want to miss out on this year’s festivities.

Back again for the 35th year, “Old Thyme Christmas” is the first holiday-themed event to take place on Main Street. On Dec. 1, guests can expect more than 40 floats and bands marching down the street for the annual Santa Claus parade.

“You can expect the same activities as last year and more,” said Jermaine Wellington, executive director of the UnionvIlle BIA. “There will be tons of floats, music, entertainment and hot chocolate for everyone. It’s very festive, and it keeps with the spirit of Christmas.”

After the parade, families can head over to the bandstand where there will be a variety of activities for all ages. Not only will Santa Claus be there to light the Christmas tree, but he will also be there to hear all the children’s Christmas wishes. Other activities include a comedy show by John Park, live music by the Markham Concert Band and an acrobatic circus show by Isabella Hoops.

Another Main Street holiday activity to look out for is “Breakfast with Santa.” Traditionally held during the first week of December, children from all over the city will have the chance to eat in one of the selected Main Street, Unionville restaurants with Santa and have their pictures taken with him and the elves.

Wellington says this event is a “wonderful experience” for children and inquiries have been made since late August.
