The fishing season is just around the corner and the Franklin Club is kicking things off with an open house on May 7. The members-only club is inviting people of all ages to come and enjoy a day at the club’s grounds.

Located near Hwy 48, just north of town, the club boasts a lake and two ponds riddled with Rainbow and Speckled Trout. The Franklin Club grounds offers scenic trails that span the 200-acre property as well as a clubhouse with accommodations offering a little-slice of heaven only minutes away from town.

“The Franklin Club is a hidden gem just, offering over 200 acres of natural beauty,” said Julie Powers, a staff member at the club. “Our goal is to show off our facilities while offering those in attendance the opportunity to get a good start to their fishing season.”

The open house event will include activities for both fishing enthusiasts and families looking to enjoy a day outdoors.

Amongst the many things available for those wanting to visit the Franklin Club, fans of the Canadian Fly Fishing team will be thrilled with the opportunity to meet some of its members watch fishing demonstrations. Lessons will also be available, as club pro Sheldon Seale will provide casting and fly fishing lessons.

The West Hill Casting Club will also attend the event and demonstrate advanced techniques and accuracy for the more serious fisherman.

Families looking to enjoy a day in the sun are also welcome. Tours of the scenic club grounds will include hikes along the Purcell Trail and the Hatchery. Kids interested in the world of fishing will get a chance to pet fish and take part in re-stocking the pond.

“One of the primary concerns for the Franklin Club is respecting the environment,” added Powers. Rules such as ‘catch and release,’ as well as the annual re-stocking of the pond continue to make the Club’s waters brimming with fish.”

Fishing lessons are extended to the more amateur fisherman as well, as seminars will be offered teaching those interested in learning where to fish around Ontario. Products will be available for purchase from the top brands in the in industry, those in attendance having the opportunity to try out some of the equipment.

The open house will be packed with activities and all those interested in fishing are urged to come out for the four-hour event.
