March 21: Members of Council, Canada Day Committee Co-Chairs, staff, special performers, and the media gathered at the Civic Centre for the official launch of Star Search Markham. The event will allow for local talent to share the spotlight during this year’s milestone Canada 150 celebrations. Candidates announced in Markham-Thornhill by-election

Candidates from four political parties will be vying for the federal MP post previously held by John McCallum who has recently left Ottawa to become Canada’s new ambassador to China. Liberal candidate Mary Ng was the first candidate announced on March 4, followed by Ragavan Paranchothy who won the Conservative nomination March 8. Accessible Mobile Washroom Trailer becomes a reality in York Region

Following a year of fundraising, York Region will have access to an accessible mobile washroom trailer starting this summer. Fundraising efforts have been underway for nearly a year and enjoyed a $50 thousand installment from the federal government in February, along with March’s announcement of $97 thousand. The order has now been placed for construction of the unit, which will cost $141 thousand and be ready in time for Canada Day celebrations, July 1. Feb. 28 – Jane Philpott, MP Markham-Stouffville and Minister of Health gave a call-to-action to students in the ME to WE Leadership Program at Markham District High School.
