Markham Public Library CEO named librarian of the year

On Feb. 1, the Ontario Library Association named Markham Public Library CEO Catherine Biss as librarian of the year. The W.J. Robertson Medallion is awarded to a librarian who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the advancement of public library service in Ontario. Athletics Canada nominates 46 athletes to Canada’s 2018 Commonwealth Games team

Markham athlete Andre De Grasse is among the group of 46 recently announced by Athletics Canada to compete in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, taking place in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4-15. The City of Markham is the first city in the Greater Toronto Area and one of the first in the country to proclaim Jan. 29, a “Day of Remembrance and Action on Islamophobia.” The day marks the one-year anniversary of a mosque shooting in Quebec where six men died.
