Pride in the 905 is right around the corner. Pflag Canada York Region will expand its Stand Proud York Region celebrations with the introduction of Family Pride. This family-friendly event will be one of the many Pride celebrations in York Region throughout the month of June.
Family Pride celebrations will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 12 pm to 4 pm in Town Park, located at 43 Church Street South (adjacent to Elgin Barrow Arena) in Richmond Hill.
This new event provides families with a fun and welcoming safe space where they can teach their kids about inclusion, and the diversity in sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression. It will also be host to various LGBTQ-friendly vendors, tasty food, sports, face painting, crafts and games.
In 2016, Pflag hosted six Pride flag raisings across York Region, including a Pride church service and vigil to honour the victims of the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. As visibility of the LGBTQ community continues to grow in York Region, so do Pflag’s Stand Proud York Region celebrations.
“Pflag is incredibly excited to be bringing Family Pride to this year’s Pride celebrations in York Region,” said Pflag President Amanda Knegje.
